Q2 beat led by international and Paramount

Q2 revenues fell 3% (cons. -7%), due to outperformance at Paramount and international cable. Operating profit rose 5% (cons. -5%), also led by Paramount while EPS of $0.92 was nicely ahead of the $0.79 consensus. Paramount's success seems in part to reflect the unexpected sale of The Cloverfield Paradox to Netflix (instead of releasing into cinemas). That said, the new Paramount management team is off to a very good start with the success of A Quiet Place ($20m budget, $200m box office to date). These results could strengthen management's hand in its merger discussions with CBS.
