Home furnishings retailer West Elm will open a new store at Friendly Center in Greensboro, NC on Thursday, September 29, bringing approximately 30 jobs to the Gate City. West Elm’s first Greensboro location, occupying 11,030 square feet in the region’s premier shopping and lifestyle destination, is its third store in North Carolina. As part of West Elm’s LOCAL program, products from eight regional makers and designers will be featured within the store’s holiday assortment of modern furnishings and décor, and a complimentary Design Lab will offer services to support customers in their journey to express their personal style at home.
“The Triad has long been heralded as the national manufacturing epicenter of home furnishings and textiles,” said West Elm president Jim Brett. “Our opening at Greensboro’s Friendly Center allows us to support that valued community producing quality, American-made furniture and textiles.”
To honor the rich manufacturing traditions of the Triad, representing Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point, West Elm has constructed a one-of-a-kind sculpture using salvaged furniture parts, woodworking tools, and spindles to design the store’s cash wrap. Additional store details include a specially designed floor with a feather herringbone pattern and the store’s exterior architecture featuring reclaimed wood panels.

To celebrate the opening, West Elm has partnered with Greensboro-based artist Nadia Hassan to design an exclusive tote bag that will be presented to the first 300 shoppers with a $50 minimum purchase. Additional store opening activities will include a sweepstakes* offering local customers a chance to win a $2,000 gift card and an invitation to a private pre-opening celebration on Wednesday, September 28 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. to benefit Center for Visual Artists, a nonprofit with a mission to support emerging artists of all ages through education programming, exhibition opportunities and community outreach.
A selection of locally made products by eight North Carolina-based makers and artisans will be available as part of the West Elm Greensboro LOCAL assortment including:
