Extracting more value from 20mn smokers; raise TP by 19% to EGP333

More taxes. The government has increased, effective 23 Feb 2015, the fixed taxes on cigarettes: EGP2.25/pack for cigarettes with retail prices equal to or less than EGP10/pack (+29%), EGP3.25 for those with retail prices higher than EGP10 and less than EGP16 (+44%), and EGP4.25 for those with retail prices higher than EGP16 (+55%). Prices increased accordingly per brand: Golden King (c65% of volume sales), up c20% from previous levels; Cleopatra White Box (c30% of sales), up c19%; and Superstar (c4% of sales), up c11%. In terms of Eastern Tobacco’s netbacks, the company managed to raise its own ex-factory prices by a blended 13.7% above 1HFY15 levels which were also raised by 12%, and vs. historical gains of 13% on average. Our forecasts for blended ex-factory prices for FY15-16e now stand 6.5% higher on average, thanks to the increased prices.
