Metsa Board (Buy, TP: EUR11.00) - Costs and prices up alike
Metsa Board reported a strong Q3, reflecting continued strong demand and rising prices for paperboard, as well as healthy pulp profits from associate Metsa Fibre. Cost inflation was evident in the Q3 results, and management expects it to keep rising near-term. We expect achieved prices to trend up in Q4 with a step-change in Q1 2022, helping Metsa Board to preserve its high paperboard sales margin in 2022e. We reiterate our BUY, but have cut our target price to EUR11 (12.2) on lower peer multiples.Metsa Board is a European producer of folding boxboard and white fresh forest fibre linerboard and a market pulp supplier. Co. and its subsidiaries comprise a forest industry group, which operations are organized into two business segments: Cartonboard and Lineboard and Paper. The Cartonboard business area is a manufacturer of folding boxboards. The business area also provides packaging services in Asia. The Linerboard and Paper business area is a manufacturer of coated white fresh forest fibre linerboards and producer of uncoated fresh forest fibre linerboards. The Linerboard and Paper business area also manufactures uncoated fine papers mainly for office end-use as well as coated papers.
