Zealand Pharma Dapiglutide phase 1b shows strong weight loss, plans to follow later

Zealand announced topline results from part 2 of the phase 1b multiple ascending dose (MAD) trial of dapiglutide (long-acting GLP-1/GLP-2 receptor dual agonist) in overweight/obese participants, which showed 11.4% (placebo adjusted) weight loss, coming in higher than semaglutide, and closer to tirzepatide at a similar timepoint in the phase 3 (STEP-1 and SURMOUNT-1) trials. By targeting GLP-2 on top of GLP-1, dapiglutide aims to address low grade inflammation on top of weight loss. As such, we believe the next step is for Zealand to define which co-morbidity the candidate can address (e.g. obesity + IBD?) in order to carve out a niche within the crowded obesity pipeline. Zealand expects to communicate more on the program later this year. We reiterate our DKK 1,120 TP and Buy rating.
