Colgate brushes up its competitive edge by spending behind new products and marketing support.
Lackluster top-line performance continued in Colgate’s second quarter, with underlying sales flat with the year-ago period as a 1% benefit from higher prices offset a 1% retreat in volumes. A portion of this weakness reflected declines on its home turf (20% of sales), where sales slipped 3.5% on an organic basis--due to lower prices and a volume shortfall. But for the second quarter in a row, management attributed part of this pullback to the reset of its dish soap lineup (home care on a consoli...Colgate-Palmolive manufactures and markets a variety of products in the United States and around the world. The company has two product segments: Oral, Personal and Home Care; and Pet Nutrition. Oral, Personal and Home Care products include toothpaste, toothbrushes and mouthwash, bar and liquid hand soaps, shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, deodorants and antiperspirants, skin care products, dishwashing detergents, fabric conditioners, household cleaners, and other similar items. Pet Nutrition products include specialty pet nutrition products manufactured and marketed by Hill's Pet Nutrition.
