HCA's Results Fall in Line With Expectations
HCA's first-quarter results broadly fell in line with our expectations, and the company reiterated its previously issued outlook for the year. We do not anticipate any major changes to our fair value estimate, and we are reiterating our no-moat rating. HCA has announced definitive agreements with Tenet and Community Health Systems to acquire hospitals in the Houston and San Antonio areas, which are expected to close sometime this summer. Most of the company's general, acute care hospitals provide medical and surgical services, including inpatient care, intensive care, cardiac care, diagnostic services and emergency services. The general, acute care hospitals also provide outpatient services such as outpatient surgery, laboratory, radiology, respiratory therapy, cardiology and physical therapy. The company's psychiatric hospitals provide therapeutic programs including child, adolescent and adult psychiatric care, adolescent and adult alcohol and drug abuse treatment and counseling.
