Manulife Posts Strong 1Q as Asian Market Heats Up
No-moat Manulife put in a very strong first quarter thanks to growth in its Asian wealth and asset management business and expected profit from in-force policies. The company’s return on equity improved to 13.7% from last quarter’s 10.8%. Core ROE, which nets out the effect of capital markets and acquisition costs, improved to 11.1% from 9.3% last quarter.
