MetLife Solid in 2Q, Close to Final Separation of Brighthouse
MetLife’s second-quarter results were largely unremarkable, in our view. The annualized operating return on equity was 10.3%, slightly below our estimate of the cost of capital, but reasonable in light of current capital-market conditions. We will maintain our fair value estimate of $58, along with our no-moat rating, and intend to adjust our fair value estimate on Aug. 7, when MetLife and Brighthouse will start to trade separately....MetLife, through its subsidiaries and affiliates, provides insurance, annuities, employee benefits and asset management. The company's segments include: United States; Asia; Latin America; Europe, the Middle East and Africa; and MetLife Holdings. In the United States, the company provides a variety of insurance and financial services products, including life, dental, disability, property and casualty, guaranteed interest, stable value and annuities to both individuals and groups. Outside the United States, the company provides life, medical, dental, credit and other accident and health insurance, as well as annuities, endowment and retirement and savings products to both individuals and groups.
