As expected, National Oilwell Varco reported relatively flat operating results in the second quarter, with revenue up 1% and operating margin improving slightly from negative 5% to negative 2%. This came from offsetting segment performance, with the company’s Rig Systems segment declining 12% as backlog continues to shrink and existing customers delay or cancel orders.
