Higher Gold Price Offsets Cost Inflation and Production Declines during Newmont’s First Quarter
Newmont’s gold production fell by about 2% to roughly 1.2 million ounces and all-in sustaining costs (AISC) rose 8% to $973 per ounce, as the company finds itself dealing with aging mines while it works to open new mines. Nevertheless, gold prices during the quarter were 9% higher than they were the prior year, which drove an 8% increase in revenue and a 12% increase in adjusted EBITDA.
