Northern Trust's wealth management and custody businesses are the foundations of its wide moat.

There was little in wide-moat-rated Northern Trust's third-quarter results that would alter our long-term view of the firm. We're leaving our $83 per share fair value estimate in place. Northern Trust's third-quarter net interest margin of 1.29% was an improvement over the prior year's period (1.14%), and only a slight shift upward from the second quarter (1.28%). We continue to expect full-year net interest margin to be closer to the upper end of our 1.25%-1.30% forecast for 2017.
