Start Your Engines: Qualcomm to Acquire NXP in a Push to Drive Greater Automotive Exposure
On Oct. 27, Qualcomm dropped the hammer that shook the semiconductor landscape by announcing it will acquire NXP Semiconductors for $110 per share, or about $38 billion. After weeks of speculation, the much-anticipated combination will allow Qualcomm to significantly diversify its revenue sources to mitigate its current mobile-centric state. The most favorable opportunity for the combined entity, in our view, is the rise in semiconductor content within the automotive space.
