On April 12, an arbitration panel announced a binding interim award demanding Qualcomm to refund $814.9 million to BlackBerry for royalties on past device sales. Over the yearlong disagreement, BlackBerry had argued that there should have been a cap on royalties paid in advance that hadn’t been applied, while Qualcomm disputed this claim and noted that the payments in question were nonrefundable.
