Why does Samsonite want to acquire a small, loss-making e-commerce platform that also sells non-Samsonite-owned brands? We think the answer is for acquiring e-commerce talent, especially those with travel products and bags experience. EBags will only have a small impact on Samsonite’s earnings (no impact in 2017 and 2% higher pretax profit in 2018).
