Toshiba Reports Possibility of Recognizing Goodwill and Impairment Related to Past Acquisition
Toshiba’s share price has dropped approximately 30% in two trading days following its Dec. 27 announcement of possible goodwill write-downs from its acquisition of CB&I Stone & Webster. The company recognizes that the additional goodwill may reach several hundred billion yen, and as Toshiba’s shareholders’ equity was JPY 363 billion at the end of the September quarter, impairing all or part of this additional goodwill will have a significant negative impact.
