Travelers' 3Q Hit by Catastrophes, but There Are Some Underlying Positive Signs

As expected, Travelers' third-quarter results were largely dominated by the impact of hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The company incurred $700 million in catastrophe losses for the quarter, or 11% of its earned premiums. As a result, returns were materially diminished, with an ROE of 4.9% for the quarter and 8.5% year to date.
