UPM’s transition away from paper is progressing, but we still see challenging years ahead.
After reviewing UPM’s second-quarter results, we are maintaining our EUR 12.50 fair value estimate and no-moat rating. At current levels, shares look overvalued. Comparable EBIT in the second quarter rose 21% versus the prior-year period, primarily as a result of continued success in the company’s cost-cutting program. The European and North American paper business, Paper ENA, was the prime beneficiary of cost savings in the quarter. The EBIT margin in Paper ENA rose to 3.9%, up from negative 0....UPM-Kymmene is a global paper and forest products group, mainly engaged in the production of paper, with an emphasis on the manufacture and sale of printing and writing papers. Co.'s operations comprise of these segments: UPM Biorefining, UPM Energy, UPM Raflatac, UPM Paper Asia, UPM Paper ENA, UPM Plywood and Other. UPM Biocomposites, UPM Biochemicals business units and Group services are reported in Other operations. Co.'s activities are centred in European Union countries, North and South America and Asia with production plants in 13 countries.
