Valero’s Q1 Earnings Hold Up Despite Heavy Maintenance
Valero’s first-quarter adjusted income rose slightly to $305 million, up from $283 million the year before, thanks to gains in the midstream and ethanol segment that offset lower refining earnings. Refining segment earnings fell only slightly, however, to $647 million from $652 million last year as improving market conditions and lower renewable identification number, or RIN, costs offset an elevated level of turnaround activity.
