Are French banks financing the real economy?

The following criticism is often heard: banks in the euro zone are not financing the real economy sufficiently; they are using the abundant liquidity provided by the ECB to invest in financial asset markets, to finance investment funds, hedge funds, etc. We therefore look at the structure of banks' assets and liabilities by using the example of French banks. We see that: Credit accounts for 54% of banks' balance sheet; Business loans account for 23% of banks' balance sheet (9% for credit to SMEs); Retail banking accounts for an increasing share and the bulk of banks' incomes .
