Are labour costs (cost competitiveness) a problem in France?

It is often claimed that excessive labour costs (both unskilled and skilled) are one of the major causes of France’s deindustrialisation. This leads to proposals to reduce corporate social contributions across all wage levels. In this Flash we examine two questions: Does France’s deindustrialisation result from a loss of cost competitiveness , or does it have other causes? Is a reduction in corporate social contributions an effective way to reduce skilled labour costs?
