Are the Federal Reserve and the ECB sure they will be able to taper in 2022?

The Federal Reserve’s statements suggest that it will reduce the size of its asset purchases from the end of 2021; those from the ECB suggest that it will reduce them in 2022. But will the conditions actually be met for the two central banks to start exiting their highly expansionary monetary policies? There is reason to doubt this, given: The fresh COVID wave in the United States from summer 2021; The growth slowdown that will result from the reduction in fiscal deficits in 2022, the fall in real wages in 2021 and commodity supply bottlenecks; The significant disinflation likely to appear in 2022 as unit labour costs stabilise and the base effect of commodity prices changes sign.
