Could there be a social or political crisis in France?
The political crisis in Italy should lead us to think about the possibility of a similar crisis appear ing in France. To determine whether this could happen, we compare between France and Italy: Poverty, inequality, unemployment; Young people's situation; Trends in purchasing power; Changes in the structure of jobs; The generosity of social welfare; "Strategic" public spending. We see that in France, there is reason to be concerned about long-term unemployment, young people's situation, the decline in factory employment and the stagnation of industrial produc tion capacity. But in the case of Italy we must add poverty, a far worse situation for young people than in France, stagnating purchasing power, declining industrial production capacity and falling public spending on education and public investments: Italy’s situation is far worse than France’s.
