ECB June meeting: Inflation revised up, but a neutral tone

The ECB, as widely expected, cut its policy rates by 25bp at the June meeting . The ECB revised its inflation forecast for 2025 slightly upwards and acknowledged that there had been less progress on inflation tha n previous ly expected. But the ECB still expects wages to moderate and the underlying price pressure to ease. The overall tone of the press conference was consequently rather neutral and data dependency was stressed again. We continue to expect rates to be cut in September and for an additional 50bp in the two subsequent meetings .
