Euro area : still a bit of growth – headline inflation edges higher
The euro area kept growing at the beginning of the year, expanding by 0.2%qoq after 0.3% in Q4:2021 . There are no further details available at the euro area level, but country data available point to weakness in consumption , that is likely to extent further into the second quarter. April headline inflation was also released showing a small further increase to 7.5% yoy after 7.4%. At the same time, core inflation jumped to 3.5% after 2.9%, suggesting a further spreading of the inflationary pressure.
