Companies in the euro zone have faced major hiring difficulties since 2017. How might they have reacted to these hiring difficulties? By substituting capital for labour? No; By increasing labour productivity? No; By increasing wages to attract new people to the labour market? Yes ; By refraining from hiring and therefore by reducing production (which could be expected to lead to a deterioration in foreign trade)? To a small degree.
