Europe must take a clear position on the consumer-friendly economic model
The European economic model has long been designed to be consumer-friendly: Strict competition rules; Offshoring to low-wage cost emerging countries; Development of mass retail and then online retail; Acceptance that many professions have low wages; Use of cheap fossil fuels. But at the same time, there is a desire to see large European companies emerge, to reshore, there are protests against the development of large online retail companies, there are calls for a significant increase in low wages and an acceleration in the energy transition. Europe will therefore need to take a clear position: to satisfy these aspirations, the systematically consumer-friendly strategy must be abandoned .
