France: Are companies facing hiring difficulties because wages are too low?

Since 2017, French companies have stated that they are facing major hiring difficulties, which nevertheless do not seem to curb job creation to any significant extent. Are companies facing hiring difficulties because wages in France are too low, and is the solution for them to increase wages? We do not believe so, since: Companies’ problem is that they cannot find employees with the required skills in a situation where the skill level of the labour force and young people is low in France; Wages constantly rise faster than labour productivity in France.
