France: Is everything lost?

The latest available data (TIMSS survey on children’s level in sciences) confirm what was already known: the poor quality of the education system in France will lead to a further deterioration in labour force skills, which may cast great doubt on France’s ability to recover. Given the very low labour force skills in France, which are therefore probably still declining, it is very unlikely: That the employment rate will recover relative to other countries, and therefore that income levels will rise rapidly; That industry and technological services will be able to reshore and develop; That companies will be able to modernise, automate or grow faster; And, in another area, that confidence in experts and in science will improve.
