France: It will be very difficult to save manufacturing jobs
In the recent period, factory job losses have gathered momentum in France (Ford, Bosch, General Electric, Whirlpool, etc.). It is important to realise that it will be difficult to save manufacturing jobs in France. Worldwide, the weight of industry is contracting and competition between countries to keep manufacturing industry is therefore very intense. Given the high production costs and corporate taxes and the low level of labour force skills, France is not well positioned in this competition. In addition, the transition to electric cars and renewable energies will be detrimental for France, which is not involved in the production of electric batteries or equipment for renewable energies. It is therefore difficult to be optimistic about the outlook for manufacturing employment in France .
