French economic policy programmes: A rude awakening awaits
When we look at the content of the economic policy programmes of France’s two presidential finalists (Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen), we see: Myriad additional spending items, many of which are reasonable or understandable , although in some cases unreasonable; Virtually no measure to reduce the fiscal deficit. Given the outlook for growth, interest rates and the European fiscal rules, we already know that neither programme will be implemented. So either some spending w i ll be abandoned, or there will be unannounced tax increases.
