GERMAN POLITICS IS GETTING INTERESTING AGAIN
The half-life of the grand coalition in Berlin declined significantly after the resignation of the chairwoman of the SPD Andrea Nahles over the weekend. The most likely outcome at this stage seems to be early elections at some point after the summer. Judging from current polls, a coalition between the conservative CDU/CSU and the Greens – potentially with the Greens being the strongest party – is the most likely outcome. Thus, the Merkel era in German politics is ending rather sooner than later.
