Germany’s tragedy: Its industry has modernised but has not become more efficient and has lost demand for its products
When we look at the level of productive investment, R&D spending and automation, we see that Germany has tried to modernise its industry to a high degree. And yet today: Labour productivity in German industry has stagnated; Demand for industrial goods produced in Germany is in decline. The German economy’s modernisation effort ha s therefore been a failure, as it has led to neither an improvement in the efficiency of industry nor an increase in the level of production.
