Global potential growth is going to be low: Growth in a number of important variables will become negative

In the aftermath of the COVID crisis, global potential growth will be weakened by: The fall in productivity gains (due to the loss of human capital and reduced capital accumulation); The fall in the employment rate (given the difficulties some employees have returning to work); Population ageing. It is expected to be only 2.2% per year in the 2020s. We seek to determine whether the low level of global potential growth will lead to negative growth in a number of important variables: Fossil fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions; Global trade in volume terms; Industrial production and consumption of industrial metals.
