Has French capitalism gone mad?
Speaking to the International Labour Organization, president Macron condemned "capitalism gone mad". This claim is strange coming from the French president, as we definitely cannot say that French capitalism has gone mad: wages have been rising faster than productivity, inequality is low and stable. On these points, France’s situation is very different from that in the United States , for example. In France, we must certainly look for the causes of social unrest elsewhere than in the madness of capitalism: deindustrialisation, weak corporate modernisation, low level of labour force skills, inequality between regions, education system that perpetuates inequality, etc.
