If capitalism wants to survive, it will have to look after the working poor
The rise in energy, food and housing prices and the growth of low-paid jobs will increase the number of working poor in OECD countries. We will therefore have to find a response to this increase, which may be provided by : Companies, with significant increases in low wages, the cost being a risk of destruction of low-skilled jobs and additional inflation; Governments, with income transfers to households compensating for inflation, the risk being a massive cost to public finances. But without a response to these price increases, a serious social crisis and a challenge to capitalism are certain.
