It is normal for an economist to think rationally about economic policy choices. Unfortunately, a number of recent choices have been irrational. For example: The introduction of tariffs on Chinese products by the Trump administration; The persistence of a huge fiscal surplus in Germany; Brexit; Tax policy in Japan.
