Italy: Giuseppe Conte kept a thin majority in Parliament
Following the resignation of two Ministers from former PM Renzi’s party last week, the government was without a majority support in parliament . PM G. Conte consequently requested a confidence vote to check his majority in the Italian parliament (Senate and MPs’ house). On Monday he won the confidence of a majority of MPs. In the Senate - although he reached a relative majority of 156 Yes versus 140 Noes out of 320 senators - he lost his absolute majority. Italia Viva’s senators (Renzi’s party) abstained and 8 senators were absent. Thus, Giuseppe Conte can keep the reins , but in a very complex political situation.
