Middle East: Latest moves on the geopolitical chessboard

At a time when the world attention remains focused on the development of the sanitary crisis , recent political events in the Middle East continue to point towards the reshaping and a redrawing of its regional geopolitical map. One key driver of th e changed outlook for the region is the change of the American foreign policy under the Biden’s administration. Even though Biden promised during the election campaign to shift away from its predecessor foreign policy line, we expected the new administration to focus on the domestic sanitary crisis before starting to work on its foreign policy agenda. Surprisingly , the Biden administration has proved quite reactive on reestablishing its diplomatic dialogue and presence in the region and has started to put forward its agenda with respect to the Iranian nuclear dossier, alongside the recalibration of its relations with long term partners Saudi Arabia and Israel. In this piece we present a succinct wrap-up of the past weeks ’ events that build up the case for the rapid reshaping of the Middle East regional geopolitical m ap alongside global economic projections for Iran, the Palestinian territories and Jordan. Starting with the news on the much-awaited re surrection of the dialogue between Tehran and Washington regarding the Iranian nuclear programme , we then comment on the US announcement of aid restoration to the Palestinian refugee’s agency to finally address the Jordan crisis.
