REAL-TIME INDICATORS / COVID-19 #1
After having reached a peak, the number of new cases of Covid-19 has decelerated significantly across Europe. Therefore, most European countries have started to lift the most restrictive containment measures with the aim to resume gradually the economic activity. Due to the usual delay in statistical indicators release, we have identified a set of high frequency data to assess , as much as possible in real time , the development of the activity. We have distorted these data from their initial aim to use them as a proxy of the economic activity. This set of data gives us information on the direction toward which the economy is evolving but must also be read with cautiousness. We are starting the study with some indicators to which we will add others over the next weeks : mobility ratios, real-time short-shift work, electricity consumption and online entertainment platforms. We will publish weekly updates in order to follow latest developments.
