The return of demographics
Rapid population ageing in many countries will lead to the return of a strong interest in demographics. This is because population ageing: Will reduce growth sharply (in Japan, Russia, China, Europe, Latin America, etc.); Could bring back inflation; Will change the global balance of power (in favour of the United States, India, Africa?); Will raise a financial equilibrium problem: who will buy the assets that the ageing countries will sell? If there is ex ante insufficient demand for these assets, their prices will fall.
