The United States and China are going to be busy with their domestic, internal problems

The United States will be forced to focus its economic policies and attention on the internal problems of its economy: declining employability and employment rates; poverty and inequality; weak social welfare; a weak education system; and a loss of economic efficiency probably linked to corporate concentration. Likewise, China will have to focus on the weakening of its growth, given its ageing population and the levelling off of productivity gains; it is also becoming a closed economy where growth is generated by domestic demand and where the external surplus is disappearing. If the United States and China are absorbed by their internal problems, they will have little interest in the wide-ranging problems of the global economy (climate, financial stability, development of the poorest countries).
