TMT : Will 5G provide enough ground wind to steer the sector out of the doldrums?

With a number of mobile frequencies having been awarded in 2019, the coming year should be marked by the widespread market deployment of 5G in Europe. In Europe, like in the United States, 4G failed to drive up average revenue per user (ARPU) . On the other hand, in intermediate economies, 4G did lead to the development of mobile Internet, which is having a positive impact on the revenue of telecom operators. We remain extremely cautious as to the potential commercial and financial fallouts of 5G offers . The challenge would seem to be focused rather more around access to Internet “for everyone” and, especially, access to new frequencies, this when data usage is experiencing exponential growth . While there are countless possible developments and investment stories that have a more or less greater bearing on machine to machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT), the financial fallout appears uncertain at this juncture .
