Unemployment is a microeconomic and not macroeconomic problem

For OECD countries, we compare the unemployment rate and: Macroeconomic variables: growth, trend in labour costs, weight of industry in the economy, weight of companies' social contributions; Microeconomic variables: labour force skills, education system efficiency, capital modernisation. We see that microeconomic variables are markedly better able to explain unemployment than macroeconomic variables.
