United States: Can the slowdown in productivity gains be explained by the dominant positions in the new technologies sector?

We examine whether the fact that large companies in the US new technologies sector have acquired dominant positions explains the slowdown in labour productivity in the United States. Once they obtained their dominant positions, these companies may have stopped trying to become more efficient, leading to a fall in productivity gains in the new technologies sector and in the economy as a whole , given the weight of this sector. Actual developments in the United States are not consistent with this hypothesis: Productivity gains in the new technologies sector remain high; The slowdown in productivity gains in the United States since 2004 is not due to the contribution of the new technologies sector.
