Two weeks before the elections, the COVID-19 epidemic is accelerating again, with an increasing number of infections and hospitalisations. Since the beginning of October, more than 970,000 new cases and around 7,000 new hospitalisations have been recorded, and the death toll from the epidemic now stands at more than 21 2 ,000. Will the epidemic, which is one of the key issues of the presidential campaign, be a decisive factor in the results of the 3 November elections? Health data do not show clear and undeniable differences between Democratic and Republican states. However, they do show that some of the swing states that voted Republican in 2016 and have a worse health situation than the national average could move into the Democratic camp.
