We look at what differentiates French companies from those in the other euro-zone countries as regards: Investment, productivity, employment; Income distribution, wages, profitability, taxes; The way investments are financed; debt, the use of debt. The main differences between French companies and those in the other euro-zone countries are initially related to the high labour costs in France due to the skewing of income distribution in favour of employees. This has resulted in: An effort to have high productivity; Lower profitability, especially since the corporate tax burden is high; Rising debt, which is also used to accumulate c ash and to finance acquisitions .
