What happens if savers/investors no longer want to own oil and gas companies?

The world is going to need oil and, even more so, gas, for a long time to come. But savers/investors may soon no longer want to own these companies' shares, and this is already reflected in their market valuation. What would happen if investors completely pulled out of oil and gas companies? Either oil and gas would be supplied by public companies in the producing countries, and the oil and gas majors would pull out of oil and gas and either disappear or adopt another model (renewable energies, electricity distribution); Or the listed oil majors would find a new shareholder base outside OECD countries that would be willing to own their shares .
