What is Germany’s most serious problem?

Germany’s long list of economic problems is well known: Declining exports to previously high-growth markets (China) and falling industrial production; Surplus savings lent to the rest of the world and not invested in the country; Insufficient corporate investment and stagnating productivity; Population ageing; Dependence on fossil fuels; Poor cost competitiveness (high labour costs and energy prices). Germany’s greatest disadvantage is probably that it invests its surplus savings in the rest of the world. The result is a shortage of funding that could be used to modernise industry or speed up the energy transition.
