What is the main determinant of the dollar’s exchange rate?

We set out to identify the main determinants of the dollar’s exchange rate (the dollar/euro exchange rate and the dollar’s nominal trade-weighted exchange rate). They may include: US monetary policy (interest rates, quantity of money) relative to other countries; Actual or expected US growth relative to other countries; How easy or difficult it is to finance the US external deficit; The safe haven role of the dollar (dollar-denominated assets) during crises. Developments since the second half of the 1990s show a significant link between the dollar’s exchange rate and: The monetary policy gap between the United States and other countries; The growth gap between the United States and the rest of the world, but only with respect to the dollar’s trade-weighted exchange rate; The US current account balance; Risk aversion and global growth. This illustrates the multiplicity of determinants of the dollar’s exchange rate.
